Rowrah Feb 2010

Saturday.

Cold and damp, as usual for Rowrah. I was off the pace slightly in the first session because of a problem with my brakes, so we changed the brake pads and as soon as they had bedded in I was able to push harder and get on the pace of the front runners.
As the track dried later on in the day we managed to go onto slicks for the last session.

Sunday.

Very cold, wet and icy in places

Heat 1.
After grip problems in the 3 lap practice we changed setup and the tyres and we went from 8th on the grid to finish 2nd and setting the fastest lap of the race on the way. I had been following the leader Max Vaughn all the way through the race and planned to pass him on the last lap going in to the Stewart esses as I was much quicker there but a novice driver was aslo in the corner as we arrived so it cocked me up and i had to settle for 2nd place.

Heat 2
I started 6th and was soon up to 2nd place with a small lead over the 3rd place kart, unfortunately as I came to lap a novice driver i got held up in the chicane which allowed the 3rd place kart to close the gap, as i started to turn in to St Johns the 3rd place kart (Darius Karbaley) rammed me from behind and put me off the track into the kitty litter, ending my race with 300 metres to go.

Heat 3
I only managed to do 100 metres because i was rammed so hard from behind by number 44 that it took my chain off.

Final
I started 23rd even though i didnt finish 2 heats, I had a great start making up 8 places on the first lap and then made my way through the field, I was pushing really hard and was given a warning flag for contact with Chad Little (sorry Chad) on the last lap I overtook James Manning
at the pond as we were coming up to a lapped driver and James ran into the back of him and nearly flipped. In the end I finished 9th which wasnt too bad.

PFi Feb 2010

Saturday, test day

It was cold, wet and foggy and the track didnt dry all day. In the first session i soon settled in and put in some really quick lap times even though the track was very slippy. through the day the track dried slightly but was still wet so we couldnt test on slicks.

Sunday, Race day

Heat 1
I had a good start and moved to 4th on the first lap, but during the race I struggled for enough grip and slowly dropped some places, on the last lap i went into the 2nd hairpin tight to defend my position, which caused me to run wide on the exit over the rumble strip and lose some more places.

Heat 2
I had a brilliant start from 25th on the grid, I gained about 8 places on the first lap and through the race the kart was really good and I picked off the other drivers one by one to finish 10th

Final
From a grid slot of 17 I had another good start and gained about 5 places on the first corner, but at the hairpin a kart spun in front of me so i had to slow down to avoid it but someone hit me from behind causing me to spin and lose loads of places. During the race i battled past the other drivers to finish 13th.

First race of the season 3 Sisters Club circuit

Test day (Saturday)

It was cold and wet but at least it wasnt raining. My first test session didnt go too good, my dad had adjusted my brakes and I found it hard to get used to them,
every time i touched them i kept locking up coming into the corner so in that session i wasn’t that quick, in the next sessions i got on the pace and went faster and faster each time as the track dried up.
In the 5th session our team stayed on wet tyres and most of the others went on slicks, the wets were miles faster than slicks and Will, Johnny and me came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Will was the quickest. We then changed to slicks for the last 2 sessions.

Race day (Sunday)

It was colder and wetter than Saturday and it rained all day long

Heat 1, 8 laps
I lined up on the grid in 19th place and had a bad start and lost a couple of places, but gained them back within a few corners. I made my way through the field to finish 4th and get the fastest lap on the way, my dad was very pleased so he gave me £5 to spend in the cafe.

Heat 2, 8 laps
The heat was delayed because there was a power cut at the track so we had an early dinner. I started 3rd and soon moved into the lead but on the last lap i was nudged from behind and i lost a bit of time and dropped to second place.

Heat 3, 8 laps
I started 27th on the grid and on the start i gained some places but then got held up in traffic, i managed to get through it but i had lost too much time dilly dallying so i only managed a lonely 11th.

Final, 12 laps
I qualified 4th, on the start I moved into 2nd place by the first corner, but at the hairpin I had understeer so it made me run a bit wide and over the 12 laps i lost some places and finished 5th just over a second behind the leader.

Trophy presentation
I was given a trophy for 'Performance of the day' and one for 5th place.

Testing at Hooton Park

10:00am Testing time
Today i went to Hooton Park in Cheshire to do some karting (my favourite thing in the world) i missed the first session because we arrived late due to heavy traffic. When i started my first session i was cold and damp i raced against my friends Jonny Jones, William Taylforth and Scot Mitchell i was the quickest by a tenth or two out off all of my friends. As the weather improved we moved on to the slick tyres i was quick in all off my sessions except one when a carb went down, i had a good test day. Then when we had finished we packed away and set of home and had a KFC on the way back with Will, i thought i had a really cracking day.
